FME processes your editing work locally. The application itself has no FME account, no advertising, and no developer-operated analytics, and does not automatically upload your projects, media, transcripts, or crash reports to us. Our website is separate: it carries an advertising measurement tag and an embedded trailer that run only if you accept them. Visiting our website, contacting support, or connecting an external assistant involves the separate data handling explained below.
Scope
This policy applies to Fast Movie Editor, the companion applications when they link to this policy, FastMovieEditor.com, and the FME privacy page on ChillingMoose.com. Chilling Moose OU is responsible for the website and support processing described here.
FME is available in different editions and on different platforms. Recording inputs, speech recognition, notifications, file-access controls, and other features may differ by edition and operating system. A description of an optional feature does not mean that every edition includes it.
Local files and projects
FME reads and processes the media and projects you open. Your project documents, source files, recordings, and exports remain on your device or in storage you choose. Local editing data can include:
- Video, audio, photographs, graphics, and other imported files.
- Edits, captions, transcript text and timing, markers, masks, animation, and audio-analysis results.
- Project autosaves, backup and recovery information, recent-file lists, and workspace settings.
- Thumbnails, waveforms, optimized media, previews, and other generated caches.
- Local logs, diagnostic reports, and file or folder access grants.
Some files contain personal information about you or the people appearing in your media. FME does not send those files to Chilling Moose for media processing or model training. If you choose a network drive or a folder synchronized by another service, that location is handled by your operating system and the storage provider you selected.
Recording and permissions
When you choose a recording workflow, FME can use the microphone, camera, screen, window, system audio, or application audio sources supported by your edition. An input preview or level meter can use a selected device before you start a take. Completed recordings are saved locally in the configured recording folder or another destination you select.
Your operating system controls permissions for protected inputs and folders. FME can ask for access when you choose a feature that needs it. Denying or revoking access prevents that input or location from being used; it does not upload the affected content.
File access can use system pickers, drag and drop, folder grants, or ordinary desktop file permissions, depending on the platform. Sandboxed editions can store local folder grants so they can reopen files you previously selected. Local notifications can report export or job completion; you can turn them off in the app or system settings.
Transcription, captions, and analysis
FME processes transcription, caption generation, speech cleanup, beat detection, and other media analysis on your computer. The transcription workflow can create temporary audio from the selected source range and store the resulting words and timing in the project. Temporary transcription files are cleaned up by the application; files left by an interruption may remain until cleanup runs.
Current desktop speech recognition uses an included offline engine or a supported on-device operating-system recognizer. Where Apple speech recognition is used, FME requires on-device recognition. It does not send the selected audio to a Chilling Moose transcription service. An operating system may separately manage its own speech permissions or language resources.
Changing caption appearance, reviewing filler words, or removing a spoken passage does not send the transcript to us. If you give project or transcript content to an external assistant, the section on connected assistants applies.
Diagnostics and crash reports
FME can write local diagnostic logs and crash reports to help investigate a failure. These may contain the application version, device and operating-system details, file paths, recent log messages, and project information. Some platforms can also produce a local memory dump after a crash. A memory dump may contain information that was in the application's memory.
The Save Diagnostics Package workflow creates a file on your computer. It can include system and application details, log excerpts, recent crash reports, and project metadata. The standard package excludes source media and memory dumps, but project text, file names, and logs may still identify people or reveal confidential work.
Creating a report or package does not upload it. Review it before sharing it by email, in a community discussion, or with a support service. Information you choose to send is handled as support correspondence below. Your operating system can separately handle crash information under its own settings and privacy policy.
Connected assistants and automation
Desktop FME can be controlled by local scripts and compatible assistants. Its built-in connection is authenticated and local. A client you connect can read application state and project information, and perform editing actions within the access of your user account.
A connected client may itself use an online AI or other remote service. Depending on that client's configuration, information it reads from FME, such as file names, project text, transcripts, or images, may be sent to that provider. FME's local connection does not make an external assistant offline. Choose clients you trust and review their privacy and sharing settings before connecting them.
Chilling Moose does not operate the external assistant's service. That provider is responsible for the information you or its client sends to it.
App stores, storage, and other services
Apple, Microsoft, Steam, and other stores or operating-system providers may process purchases, downloads, updates, license status, review requests, and device diagnostics under their own policies. Those activities are separate from FME's local editing. FME does not send us your payment card details.
Opening an external link contacts its destination. Using network storage, importing from a network location, or recording a supported network source contacts the service you selected. Your network and storage providers may process connection information or your files.
Provider policies include the Apple Privacy Policy, Microsoft Privacy Statement, and Steam Privacy Policy. They apply to those providers' services.
Website visits
FastMovieEditor.com uses a Google Ads conversion tag and embeds a product trailer hosted on YouTube. Neither runs until you accept them. On your first visit the site asks, and until you choose Accept no advertising cookie is set and no request is made to Google or YouTube. Choosing Decline keeps them off. Your choice is stored in your browser and you can change it by clearing this site's stored data.
If you accept, the Google Ads tag can set advertising cookies and report that a visit or a download followed an advertisement, and the embedded player can set cookies belonging to YouTube. We use the tag to measure whether our advertising works, not to build a profile of you on this site. This processing relies on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Google's handling is described in the Google Privacy Policy and its advertising and measurement documentation.
The trailer is served from youtube-nocookie.com, and before you accept it is shown as a still image with a play button. Clicking that image loads the YouTube player for that one viewing. Our other product videos are hosted on our own web server, so playing one requests that video from us rather than from a third-party player.
The server receives and logs ordinary request information. This can include your IP address, request time, requested page or file and query string, browser information, referring page, response status, and request duration. These records are used to deliver the website, investigate errors, and protect it against misuse. A request for an image, video, or download can create a log entry just as a page visit does.
FastMovieEditor.com uses Cloudflare to deliver and protect the website. Cloudflare receives connection and request information, including IP addresses and browser details, to route requests, cache content, and detect misuse. Depending on the security checks needed for a visit, it may use browser checks or necessary security cookies. These are described in Cloudflare's cookie documentation.
Cloudflare operates internationally, so website request information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Its Privacy Policy explains its processing and international-transfer safeguards. Website delivery and security are separate from the local files you edit in FME.
We rely on our legitimate interests in operating a reliable and secure website for this processing. We do not use access logs to build advertising profiles. Links to Steam, social networks, stock-media source pages, or other external sites are governed by the destination's practices when you follow them.
Support messages and sharing
If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever name, message, attachments, and technical details you provide. We use this information to respond, investigate the issue, and keep a record of the request. Depending on the request, this processing is necessary to provide support for your purchase, serves our legitimate interests in resolving problems, or meets a legal obligation.
Our email and hosting service providers process information needed to deliver those services. Access is limited to the people and providers who need it to handle the request or operate and protect the service. We may disclose information where required by law or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. We do not sell support correspondence or website visitor information.
Do not send source footage, transcripts, personal information about other people, or confidential client material unless it is needed for your request and you have permission to share it. A public forum post is visible under that forum's own rules and privacy settings.
Retention and deletion
Local editing data: You control project documents, source media, recordings, and exports. You can delete them using your operating system or the chosen storage service. Generated caches and local settings have separate storage and cleanup controls. Uninstalling FME may leave projects, recordings, exports, or other files outside its application-data folder.
Website and support records: We retain access logs and correspondence for as long as needed for the purposes described above. Relevant criteria include whether a support request is still open, whether a technical or security issue needs investigation, and whether records are needed to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute. Retention is not the same for every record. You can contact us about a particular record or request deletion, subject to applicable law.
Deleting a local project does not delete copies you sent to another person, an assistant, a cloud folder, or a support service. Those copies are subject to the recipient's retention practices.
Your privacy rights
Where applicable data-protection law gives you these rights, you can request access to personal information we hold, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or a portable copy. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. If a particular activity relies on your consent, you can withdraw it without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
We may need enough information to identify the relevant record and verify your request. We cannot access or delete local project files that have never been sent to us. There is no FME account to close.
You may complain to the data-protection authority where you live, work, or believe a violation occurred. Information about Estonia's authority is available from the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate. Contacting us does not prevent you from using that right.
Children and policy changes
FME is a general-purpose creative tool and does not use a child-directed advertising or profiling service. We do not knowingly request personal information from children through this website or support. If you believe a child has sent us information that should be removed, contact us.
We will update this page when the practices described here change and show the new effective date. This update adds an advertising measurement tag and an embedded video player to the website, both of which require your consent before they run, and describes them under Website visits. It does not introduce a project-upload service, and it does not change how the application handles your local files.
